The thickness of the starter was smaller than the original starter where the bolts enter to attach it to block, the bolts are specifically designed for a starter, the shoulder behind the threads are knurled down, using a different kind of bolt can possibly damage your engine block, I put washers on bolts too make the threads extend the same distance through the new starter with the smaller frame
After looking at many websites, I decided to order this one. It fits very well, and the material is good quality. It took a few minutes to exchange the wires for the new one. I turned on the boat key, and it started right away with no problems at all. It was very easy to install, so no need to pay $200+ to take it to the mechanic; you can do it yourself. A very good price for an outstanding item!

Hanging bracket on front end was a little off, so just zip tied to the motor for the additional support. Probably could have just left the bracket off.

Exact for for the Mercury 3.0L. Not to hard to install. It was slightly longer than the original, so the strut that attached to the engine block did not fit. Spins well, boat starts easily.

This is a follow up to let customers know the one snafu. This starter was much smaller than the the one that it replaced. The one problem was that the original bolts that hold the starter in place were too long for the smaller starter and did not work. I was able to source some 4"(3/8-16) bolts from Home Depo that did the job and had the same 14mm head. Just a "heads up" so you don't have to put the bolts in twice in that hard to reach place!

Perfect replacement for Mercruiser 3.0! Work as it should.
I've only been able to start the boat once, but it started right up. I did have trouble try to figure out which starter was the correct one. I had to return the first one, as it wasn't the correct model.
Good so far, design is per oem....
I got a faulty starter it fit the 3.0 merc perfect and turned it over properly all of 2-3 times and wouldn't engage anymore would just free spin. Replaced it same day with another one my buddy ordered from a different seller on Amazon and has taken a pretty good beating since. I would imagine not all of their products fail so quick but they still have not reached out about my return
Installed on my 95 rinker 5.7 merc Small wire pole was different than original I had to switch to second small pole then it worked fine try this if you have a problem
The bolt holes did not line up to be able to install this starter, though it did include my model year ,motor size and the model number.
